Education is very important to us as a family. So here I am, a mother of a very bright 5th grader diagnosed with E who is now struggling in school. I relayed all this information to her Doctor and she suggested another EEG (showed signs of increased seizure activity) and on her recommendation we are switching her meds to Depakote. Now getting D's & F's on tests, not turning in homework (even completed homework), memory loss, concentration & comprehension problems, and absence seizures. After this February's seizure/med increase she started having increased side effects. you just wanted her to have more time turn in her homework?"Ī little background on Molly. She was diagnosed in August of '05 and up until August of '06, she had complex partial seizures infrequently at about 1 every 3-4 months, since August'06 she has had four each about 8 weeks apart and with each seizure, she would get an increase in her meds (Tegretal). She said that Molly had to do the same work as everyone else, they could not reduce her amount of class or homework and "what. I felt myself stumbling over my words and getting frustrated. But she didn't say it in a nice and concerned or helpful way, more accusatory. She kept saying how Molly had been a very good student and wanted to know what I wanted. The psycho asked if I just wanted to start a study group for her and wait to see she needs a 504 plan later. Okay well, I had already requested one so I'm not exactly sure why there was a meeting today. The purpose of the meeting was to see if I wanted a 504 plan for Molly. It was rushed, because she only had about ten minutes, and I walked away feeling horrible. It was the first meeting with the psycho ( -) and to say the least, I am disturbed. Today I had a mini meeting with my daughter's principal & school psychologist.
